Session I: Overview and Keynote
Tuesday, January 17th, 3:30-5pm ET

Overview: Janet Ohene-Frempong, MS
Keynote: Sayantani DasGupta, MD, MPH
Janet Ohene-Frempong opens the symposium by defining health literacy and its intersection with racism. Dr. Sayantani DasGupta, physician, author and Narrative Medicine educator, will discuss the role narrative plays in racism, health literacy and communicating across power. 

Session II: Anti-racist Health Literacy in Action
Wednesday, January 18th, 3:30-5pm ET
This panel provides insight from the field, highlighting best practices and identifying key challenges in promoting health literacy in the face of racism. Panelists include: Wilma Alvarado-Little, MA, MSW, Associate Commissioner, NYSDOH. Director, Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities Prevention; Tyree Oredein, DrPH, Say Ah! Board Member and founder of Left Turn Village; Anqunette Parham, JD, MPH, the Health and Human Services Department of the City of Rockford, Illinois, and Rockford Ready; Mike Keo, founder of #IAMNOTAVIRUS Campaign and co-founder of Make Us Visible; and Mark Travis Rivera, storyteller, speaker and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion professional.

Session III: Bearing Witness
Thursday, January 19th, 3:30-5pm ET
Host: Valerie Williams-Sanchez, DrPH, Say Ah! Board of Directors
Narrative Overview: Jade Dickenson, MS, Say Ah! Narrative Competency Lead
Storyteller: Antoinette Cooper, MFA
Poet and TEDx speaker Antoinette Cooper, in conversation with Jade Dickenson, provides narrative tools to enhance health literacy and discusses how stories transform health communication and change the health care narrative. 

Racism & Health Literacy is a part of Say Ah!’s call for a racially just health care system, and an end to the discriminatory health literacy and health communication practices that often leave Patients and Caregivers of Color unseen, unheard and unhealed.
